Nevil Shute Norway was an accomplished storyteller. His best-known work was probably, ON THE BEACH (1957). It was adapted for the screen in 1959 ande became one of the most celebrated anti-Bomb films. It attracted much attention in Moscow because it was the first full-length American feature to have a premiere in the Soviet Union. Shute was a respected aeronautical engineer who brought his knowledge of the technical side of aviation design to his books.
