the 111 men of the Commando
killed in actions from the beaches
of Normandy to the Baltic Sea.
6th June 1944 to 8th May 1945
This memorial was erected in their honour
by surviving old comrades.
Further Information
Landed 6 June 1944 in Normandy. While attacking Linne (the Netherlands) in bitterly cold weather the Commando was heavily engaged on 23 January 1945, when L/cpl Eric Harden RAMC was killed rescuing the third of the casualties he brought out from A Troop's isolated position. An action for which he was awarded the VC.
L/cpl Eric Harden is buried in NEDERWEERT WAR CEMETERY, NETHERLANDS.
